Novellas and short stories are notoriously difficult to sell and Cath Barton finds people asking her when she is going to write a ‘proper novel’. Nevertheless, she has been successful in finding publishers for both a second novella and a collection of short stories. Cath will talk in defence of the novella and other short fiction, question the concept of the ‘full-length novel’, and consider what is in favour of shorter forms of literature from the point of view of both writers and readers.
Cath Barton is an English writer who lives in Abergavenny. Her prize-winning novella The Plankton Collector was published by New Welsh Review under their Rarebyte imprint. Her second novella, In the Sweep of the Bay, will be published by Louise Walters Books in September 2020.
