Professor Bran Nicol: ‘Mr. Holmes, they were the footprints of a gigantic hound!’: Sherlock Holmes, Hounds, and Hauntings’
To celebrate the 125th anniversary of the first Sherlock Holmes publication, Professor Bran Nicol will discuss Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Hound of the Baskervilles and mention the ‘black dogs’ legend of Powys. Some believe that the inspiration for the novel’s location was Wales, not Devon. Other Sherlock Holmes anniversary texts, such as The Speckled Band (125 years old this year) and His Last Bow (the very last Sherlock Holmes story – written 100 years ago) will also feature.
